Frequently asked
Is my version of Moodle still supported?
Moodle 4.1 LTS and 4.4 stopped receiving security fixes on 8 December 2025. Moodle 4.5 LTS is supported until around October 2027. Standard releases are supported for 18 months and long-term support releases for 36 months.
Can you upgrade straight from Moodle 3.x to 5.x?
Not in one step: Moodle requires certain intermediate versions. I plan the path, run each step on a copy of your site first, and then repeat it on the live site in one maintenance window.
Will my plugins and theme still work?
Every plugin is checked against the target version before the upgrade. Plugins with a compatible release are updated; for those without, you get options: an alternative, a fix, or removal.
How long will my site be offline?
Usually one to three hours, depending on the size of your site and the number of steps. The upgrade is scheduled when your learners are least active.
What if something goes wrong?
A full backup of the database and files is taken right before the upgrade, and there is a tested rollback plan. Anything the upgrade causes in the next 30 days is fixed at no cost.
Do you need access to my server?
Yes: SSH or control panel access, and a Moodle administrator account. Access can be removed as soon as the work is done.
